On 25th September, challenge yourself and your colleagues by taking part in this special day to mark National Fitness Day to give yourselves a welcome boost and join colleagues across the campus in supporting the positive benefits derived from good health and wellbeing. There will be a host of events to participate in on campus throughout the day or you can set up your own company challenge and go for it which could be competing on the outdoor gym equipment, spinning a record number of collective miles in a day or organizing a walk-a-thon. It’s up to you and we want to see your tweets throughout the day so we can see how campus organisations are shaping up to this challenge! Or why not take part in our Continuous Rounders game on the centeral sports field, where we are aiming to chalk up 150 rounders in 120 minutes! Jump on board at any time between 12.00 and 14.00 and have a go.
The Fitness Experts, Endeavour Training and the HLRA (Harwell’s own Recreational Association) will be providing expert fitness and advice during the day as well as providing a smorgasbord of sports taster activities showcasing what’s available to campus occupiers. To whet your appetite here’s the starter for 10…
@HLRA 12.00 – 14.00
Formerly known as the Harwell Laboratories Recreational Association but now simply HLRA, this is available for everyone on campus and offers 10 different sports you can participate in on a regular basis. The most popular sports are rounders, cricket, tennis and croquet and there will be reps available on the day so you can find out more about each one.
The challenge is on - can we complete 150 rounders in 2 hours. Between 12.00 and 14.00, HLRA will be hosting the campus’s largest rounders game to date. A continuous game will be running and there is no need to book. Just turn up and hit some balls to add some rounders or try out your fielding skills.
@The Fitness Experts - 06:15 until 20:15
The Fitness Experts will be running free group exercise sessions, strength training classes, personal training sessions as well as nutrition seminars and body MOTs during the day. The focus is all about learning how to get fit and the benefits to your wellbeing of improving your overall fitness. Getting fit or in shape doesn’t have to be boring and can be fun too - their goal is to show you how you can achieve this.
The Fitness Experts team will be opening their doors to all, running personal trainer led fitness sessions every hour from 06:15 until 20:15pm – a total of 14 hours of free fitness throughout the day! No need to book, and all fitness levels are actively encouraged to come along. There will also be personal trainers on hand for 1-2-1 consultations and training sessions, as well as appointments for body MOTs with their in-house Osteopathy team. As if that’s not enough there will be plenty of freebies on the day too, and a not-to-miss competition to win a year’s free membership!
@Endeavour Personal Training 12.00 – 14.00
Endeavour Personal Training specialise in 1 to 1 and couples training in its purpose-built studio, based on the shopping parade, Curie Avenue. Dave will be on hand at the studio between 12.30pm-1.30pm for you to drop in and have a look around and to answer any questions you have about personal training or fitness in general
Endeavour Fusion Bootcamp will be running their popular outdoor circuit style bootcamp on the grassed area opposite the day nursery on Curie Avenue. Popsy will be there from 12.30pm-1.30pm, so please drop by and have a taste of what it’s all about. The benefits of outdoors exercise will leave you buzzing.
Endeavour Pilates @ the pavilion will be running 2 free taster sessions from 12.15pm-12.45pm and 1.00pm-1.30pm in the HLRA Pavilion. Jasmine will be running both sessions and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about Fitness Pilates. If you fancy giving it a go please drop in and if you have an exercise mat please bring it along. If you don't own a mat, there will be a few spares available.
@Pierreponts 08.30 – 15.30
Next door to The Fitness Experts, Pierreponts Cafe will be providing complementary healthy smoothies as well as protein packed power balls to help you recover. If you need something more substantial they will have plenty of healthy food options to tempt you with.
@Harwell Campus Bicycle Loan Scheme – Free of charge for up to 48 hours hire
Harwell Campus has a brand-new Bicycle Loan Scheme available that will be formally launched on 12th September. It is available for use in the following locations on campus: HQ Building, Quad One, Zephyr and RAL Reception and can be accessed by downloading the Donkey Republic App. This is a chance to take a cycle ride during the day or between meetings, even if you don’t have your own bike on campus and not just on National Fitness Day!
