Annual ‘Liftshare Week’ is coming to Harwell Campus from 7th- 13th October and is all about promoting the savings that we as a community can make to our environment as well as for ourselves.
We currently have 716 members signed up for the Harwell Campus Liftshare programme, with over 350 members adding a journey to share. If all these members used Liftshare each workday they would have saved nearly £100,000 a year combined, as well as reducing 191.00 tonnes of CO2 from the environment.
In a broader sense, these are some of the key benefits that Liftshare offers to its users:
- Reduces the costs of travelling
- Undercuts the cost of nearly all forms of motorised transport
- Cuts congestion and pollution
- Reduces parking problems
- Is a great way of networking and making new friends
- Can be far more direct
What are the costs?
Liftshare calculates a suggested contribution per passenger for your journey based on the length of your trip and using HM Revenue and Customs Approved Mileage Payment Allowance. Drivers can adjust the price within a capped window. The contribution set by the driver using this system is fixed, making it simple and transparent for everyone involved.
To be a good Liftshare driver it is important that you are reliable. When commuting to work it is important that people arrive at their destination on time. Communication is key, if you will be delayed it is crucial to let people know. However, flexibility is important too. Sometimes you or your sharer will have to stay a bit late at work unexpectedly – but warn each other whenever you think this might be the case. It is also important to make those you travel with feel as comfortable as possible, so make sure you ask before adjusting any controls, don’t smoke unless the driver says it is okay to do so, keep the car clean and if you are driving to do so in a considerate way.
We hope as many of you as possible will join us for this week, and hopefully adopt this way of travel going forward!
