In recognition of the 75th Anniversary year of D-Day, Harwell Royal British Legion, the Glider Pilot Regiment Society (GPRS) and Harwell Campus Management are hosting a special commemorative evening on 5th June, the same night that 75 years earlier marked the commencement of D-Day missions from RAF Harwell.
Presentations on the topic of RAF Harwell and its place in the history of the Second World War will be followed by a walk to the Memorial stone for a Ceremony of Remembrance, close to the runway that was used for take-off on 5th June 1944.
Historian and author Mr. Steve Wright (GPRS) and Mr. Don Summers, Chairman of the Ridgeway Amateur History Group will be speakers at the event. There will be a fly-past of 4 vintage planes from the Historic Army Aircraft Flight and vehicles belonging to local military vehicle collectors.
Detailed joining instructions will be sent nearer the time but easy parking will be available on site on the evening. All guests will need to be registered as they will pass through security to join the event.
