Improvements to Junction

Improvements to Junction

Harwell Campus management has been liaising with Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) regarding improvements to the junction between Thomson Avenue and the A4185 Newbury Road, and its impact on Thomson Entrance, one of the principal entrances onto the campus.

This junction is to be upgraded to a signalled junction, which will benefit cyclists and pedestrians, as well as make it easier for traffic turning into the Campus coming from Rowstock.  The necessary roadworks  will begin on 12th August and are scheduled to continue for 20 weeks.

A plan showing the proposed general layout of the re-configured junction can be found here. The nature of the works will require the Thomson Entrance to be closed periodically and whilst closed appropriate diversion signage will be in place. These works, at times, will also impact access to the pedestrian footpath, which will be closed during phases of the works.  Diversions will be in place directing pedestrians to use a route through the campus via Eighth Street at these times.

OCC has provided details about the works on their website. The page contains information on the work, maps, FAQs and a form to sign up for regular bulletins.
