We currently have a phenomenal opportunity for a specialist on our ISIS Neutron and Muon Source accelerator equipment. You will work closely and collaborate with leading scientists in the field and work on a breadth of accelerator technology. You will also be working closely with engineers and scientists to specify, design, develop and procure custom mechanical and electromagnetic equipment for the particle accelerator.

About the role:

We are looking for a technical specialist to support the development of large, sophisticated accelerator systems, from concept to commissioning. As the technical lead of these development projects, you will require expertise in both electromagnetic and mechanical engineering concepts.

You will produce detailed design reports supported by fundamental electromagnetic theory, calculations and simulations using specialised software packages. These reports will support decision making on large scale projects and will also be used as training for new and mid-career engineers.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating and working within several multidisciplinary teams.
  • Providing expert advice to ISIS management relating to the feasibility of new accelerator-related projects.
  • Representing ISIS and STFC internationally when presenting results at conferences and in publications.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A masters or PhD in a relevant engineering subject area.
  • Experience in crafting equipment for particle accelerators or related fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant physics and electrical engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering principles common to accelerators.
