We are currently looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to working on an exciting project entitled “Spin-orbit coupling and dimensionality at the heart of quantum magnetism of heavy transition metal oxides”. The project will be focused on experimental condensed matter physics to investigate novel quantum materials.
About this role
You will play a leading role in:
- Materials synthesis and lab-based characterisation.
- Beam time applications.
- Participation in experiments at international facilities using neutron, muon and x-ray techniques.
- Data analysis and dissemination of the results.
The overall aim of the project will be to develop a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental properties of an important and emerging family of quantum materials based on heavy transition metal oxides.
You will hold a PhD, or equivalent, at the time of application. You will be trained in experimental solid-state synthesis; synthesis of transition metal based oxide materials and have experience or knowledge of crystal growth methods and low-temperature physical properties measurements techniques. Experience with muon, neutron and x-ray techniques will be an advantage.
Communication skills for disseminating the results within the team and subsequently in potential publications are an important requirement of this position.
You are encouraged to work independently and in cooperation with other members of the research team. You will be able to demonstrate excellent planning and time management skills to ensure your research objectives are achieved effectively.
We are offering an exciting opportunity that provides a whole host of benefits including; 30 days holiday (in addition to bank holidays), an excellent defined average salary pension scheme, employee shopping/travel discounts, a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme, plus many more benefits and wellbeing initiatives that enable our employees to have a great work life balance.
