We are currently have an opportunity for a Radioactive Waste Specialist who is experienced in radioactive waste management to support our ISIS Neutron and Muon Source radioactive waste function.

About this opportunity:

We are currently undertaking a programme of work to retrieve and dispose of the facilities legacy radioactive waste together with ongoing operational waste. We are a large scale facility with exciting challenges requiring long term radioactive waste management. The role will cover all aspects of ISIS radioactive wastes and will help shape the course of future radioactive waste management at STFC contributing to the ongoing scientific work and future success of ISIS.

Working in the ISIS health physics and facility safety group, this is a rare opportunity to work with an operating high energy proton accelerator with innovative facilities and novel radioactive wastes.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Provide advice and assistance on radioactive waste management, internal processes and compliance to waste producers and operations teams.
  • Plan, undertake and verify the assessment and characterisation of radioactive wastes.
  • Develop waste management strategies, and support waste processing team to safety recycle and dispose of wastes.

We are looking for:

You will be self-motivated and have established technical expertise in the area of radioactive waste management and radiation metrology. You will be able to apply your skills to tackle problems in novel circumstances and work closely with operations personnel and non-specialists.
