Junior Web Developer

We are looking for a full-time Junior Web Developer to join our IT team on a permanent basis, providing operational support mainly to our Front-End development team, but also the Back-end and R&D teams as and when required. The Junior Web developer will work within the Front-end team, under the supervision of our Web Developer and reporting to our Lead Front-End IT Developer.

SUMMARY

Location: based at least 2 days per week at our headquarters at Harwell Campus (Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK - https://www.harwellcampus.com), with remote working in the other days.

Contract type: full-time, permanent, salary level indicatively between £20,000 - £30,000 yearly gross (to be defined depending on candidate’s experience).

POSITION

We are looking for a full-time Junior Web Developer to join our IT team on a permanent basis, providing operational support mainly to our Front-End development team, but also the Back-end and R&D teams as and when required. The Junior Web developer will work within the Front-end team, under the supervision of our Web Developer and reporting to our Lead Front-End IT Developer.

 

Candidates should have a sound working knowledge of and experience (commercial or academic) with Front-end web development (HTML/CSS/Node.JS/React), Git, and desirably have some PHP or Python knowledge. The candidate should be familiar with web/mobile layout and security best practices as well as the understanding on how to configure a website or web-app to be supported across various web browsers.

 

Candidates should enjoy debugging, troubleshooting and solving technical problems, and have an interest in developing their knowledge and experience of the various web development technologies they will be working with. Support, mentoring and training will be provided.

 

All candidates will be evaluated fairly, on their merits and suitability for the role.

 

Responsibilities:  

·       Actively supporting the Front-end team with the configuration, monitoring and development of web applications, liaising closely with our Web Developer

·       Supporting the Back-end and R&D teams as and when necessary

·       Keeping up to date with and learning emerging technologies of relevance or interest

 

Skills & Experience:

Required  

·       A sound knowledge of:

o  JavaScript – Node.JS/React experience or familiarity of component-based development with JSX

o  Git - we are looking for someone who is comfortable with all the most commonly used Git operations (init, add, status, commit, log, branch, checkout, remote, push, pull, fetch, merge, stash)

o  web deployment – able to manage uploading and maintenance of web applications

o  experience on projects built in React and Node (to be showcased during the interview)

·       Candidate must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with other team members

·       Know when and how to effectively ask for help when needed

·       Candidate must be familiar with agile workflow tools, e.g. Jira, Azure DevOps, Asana

·       Teamwork skills with a problem-solving attitude

·       Good written and verbal communication skills

·       Eligible to live and work in the UK

 

Nice to have

·       Degree (e.g. BSc, MSc) in a scientific discipline, preferably Computer Science

·       Experience on SwiftUI

·       Experience of working in an Agile environment, e.g. Scrum

·       Experience of writing Unit and UI Tests

·       Experience with CI and CD practices

·       Experience of a development process such as Test-Driven Development

·       Experience of task/ticket management tools such as Jira
