STFC's vision is to maximise the impact of our knowledge, skills, and resources for the benefit of the UK and its people. Our Business Development team supports this vision by engaging with commercial organisations, enabling them to meet their research and development goals through access to STFC’s facilities, technology and expertise.
As Business Development Manager for STFC’s technology department, you will be responsible for managing and developing the relationships with a number of key accounts, as well as identifying new commercial opportunities and developing those opportunities through to commercial contract. You will also engage with science led projects in order to identify new business opportunities that may arise.
You will achieve this by understanding the department’s value proposition, creating a clear commercial business plan with the departmental management team, developing a strong network of internal and external contacts, and overseeing the commercial bid management process, to include support for proposal and bid writing and submission and to manage risk effectively.
The role is primarily based at RAL but will require occasional travel to other STFC sites and for stakeholder meetings in both the UK and oversees.
You will have a background in physical sciences or engineering and have experience of working in a commercial role in a technology or scientific organisation. You will be enthusiastic and interested in learning about the commercial applications of our technology capabilities. You will enjoy talking to people at all levels in commercial organisations about their product research and development challenges and be inspired to find practical solutions to address those challenges.
You will be motivated to deliver new business and nurture new and existing customer relationships. You will take pride in delivering great customer experience, and you will be responsive to customer requests. You will be confident, credible, and able to engage and influence both technical and business-led discussions and bring a commercial perspective to scientific projects.
