 About the role

A vacancy exists in the CLF Target Fabrication group for a Microtarget Fabricator. This role will be integral to the delivery program and you will be responsible for the manufacture and assembly of the micro-components that constitute the laser target (the scientific package of the experiment). Working in a clean room environment and assembling components to tight tolerances using optical microscopes and fixtures you will provide day to day support to the experimental groups, working closely with them to manufacture and modify assemblies to achieve the scientific aims.

You will be able to work calmly under pressure, have excellent dexterity, accuracy and the ability to concentrate on fine details. You will have good communication skills to liaise with experimental groups.

The fabrication and production processes for sub-components and assembled targets include techniques such as thin-film coating and experience in this would be desirable. The ability to read basic engineering drawings and implement the specifications is key to the accurate manufacture of complex targets.

You will be responsible for the delivery and recording of target information before, during and after experimental campaigns. This will include tasks such as:

1) Work with experimental group daily to implement changes and modifications

2) Testing assemblies and designs prior to experimental campaigns

3) Fabrication of components and final assemblies.

4) Ensuring Microtargets are delivered to customer defined deadlines

5) Microtarget characterisation using a range of techniques

6) Working within a quality management system (ISO9001:2015).

About you

You will have beA–Level qualified in Maths, Science and/or relevant subject (or equivalent), along with excellent oral and written communication skills.

You will also have ability to understand basic engineering drawings and be able to respond positively to rapidly changing demands and able to prioritise conflicting demands.

It is desirable that you will have previous experience relevant to Microtarget assembly and have an understanding of thin film coating techniques and basic vacuum systems.
