Campus Development Manager

Salary: £59,023 to £65,580 Grade: G Contract Type: Fixed Term - 2 Years Hours: Full Time Closing Date: 25th May 2020 Harwell Campus is developing clusters around the different sectors at Harwell to encourage multidisciplinary collaboration across the campus and beyond. The power of clustering is well documented, and numerous benefits come from the physical concentration of related businesses in one geographical area. The current clusters are Space, Energy, Health at Harwell and Health at Daresbury. This position will report to the Director of Clusters and Harwell Campus Business Development and work closely with the Cluster team, BID colleagues and the Joint Venture Partnership.

The Harwell Campus Development Manager is a post within the Science & Technology Facilities Council, which will:

  • Work closely with the Director of Clusters and Harwell Campus Business Development to deliver the Harwell campus strategies and manage the overall implementation of Campus strategic partnerships, programmes and events linked to Cluster and Campus activities
  • Develop and write business cases to seek funding for STFC’s priority campus development projects on Harwell Campus, including business scale-up activities, working closely with STFC colleagues
  • Support/lead the development of tenders and bid inputs, ensuring effective negotiations of commercial deals and delivery of successful outcomes
  • Articulate an evidence based strategy and implement plan for the delivery of the business support offer for the Harwell Campus, working with cluster stakeholders
  • Coordinate activities with the Daresbury Head of Campus Development
  • Oversee management of programmes such as the Cross-Cluster Proof of Concept Programme ensuring outputs make a tangible contribute to directorate objectives
  • Manage enquiries from businesses, hosting high level Campus visits
  • Provide appropriate signposting and referral to local and national business support and sources of relevant knowledge, support, finance and other resources to businesses on Campus
  • Oversee the tracking of metrics of performance and growth of the Campus clusters and work with colleagues in BID and Strategy, Performance and Communications to promote the impact of the Campus clusters
  • Build links with the broad range of multidisciplinary activities in Oxfordshire and work with key partners such as the Harwell joint venture, OxLEP, and DIT to promote Harwell as a business location to high-tech companies with the aim of attracting and retaining inward investment
  •  Additional management activities within the Business and Innovation Directorate as required.

In addition work alongside the Space Cluster Development Manager to:

  • Develop and deliver key aspects of the Space Cluster at the Harwell Campus
  • Develop and execute a strategy for attracting international companies into the Space Cluster, articulating an offer which is attractive to Space and Space-enabled companies throughout the world, working closely with International Trade & Investment
  • Work to exploit the cross-disciplinary activities inherent in the Harwell Campus for the benefit of the Space community and others, by maintaining and communicating an overview of opportunities across the Campus and its three Clusters
  • Develop links to regional clusters around the UK to mutual benefit and the benefit of the UK economy, including the Sci-Tech Daresbury Campus
  • Support the Harwell Campus Business Development Director and the Space Cluster Development Manager in maintaining the strategy for the Space Cluster by identifying critical success factors to attract key-players and accelerate the growth of the space cluster by engaging in new opportunities
  • Work with Impact and Engagement colleagues to promote the offer of the Space Cluster locally, nationally and internationally
  • Articulate the Space Cluster offer to businesses that are contemplating growing or investing in Harwell via event attendance and managing the generation of leads from this, from inception through to delivery of an agreed development, partnering and funding plan.
