Senior Support Scientist (Maternity Cover)

We are looking for a maternity cover (up to 12 months) for the Senior Support Scientist position at the long-wavelength macromolecular crystallography beamline I23.  

The beamline is unique, the first in-vacuum MX beamline ever built covering a wavelength range not accessible elsewhere. The main focus is on utilising the weak anomalous signal from naturally bound atoms, like sulphur or phosphorus, and the identification of important ions from calcium, potassium or chlorine. The I23 vacuum setup requires dedicated sample holders which are sent on request to the users. You will manage this part of the I23 user program, mainly around the sample logistics and communication with user groups ahead of their experiments. During the beamtime you will assist users with the sample transfer into the vacuum end station and help with data collections. We have started with an ambitious upgrade project and you will have a chance to get involved in some of the R&D projects towards the next I23 end station.   

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent qualification or experience in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, or related fields, preferably with some experience in macromolecular crystallography or in handling of biological samples. In addition the support scientist will assist the beamline team with the installation, commissioning and maintenance of beamline equipment and with supporting external users with their experiments at the beamline.
