Senior Software Architect – Geospatial Full Stack

We are looking for a full stack developer to produce scalable geospatial software solutions. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that’s responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment.

Overview 

Hours: permanent full time, 40 hours per week. We are open to approaches regarding contract-to-perm opportunities. 

Closing date: 31.03.2020 

Job Location: Farringdon, London. On occasions, working from Sen’s Harwell office in Oxfordshire may be required. Occasional travel within U.K. and abroad may be required.

Job brief 

We are looking for a full stack developer to produce scalable geospatial software solutions. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that’s responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment.

As a full stack developer, you should be comfortable around both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks and third-party libraries. You should have previous technical experience of GIS software development projects, and be a team player with a knack for visual design and utility. 

If you’re also familiar with agile methodologies, we’d like to meet you.  

 

Responsibilities 

  • Help recruit to grow Sen’s back-end development team
  • Work with the Product and EarthTV teams (Product Manager, Head of Design and User Engagement, Spaceflight Software Lead, Analytics Lead) to ideate and implement software solutions
  • Design client-side and server-side architecture 
  • Develop and manage well-functioning databases and applications 
  • Write effective APIs 
  • Test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency 
  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software 
  • Create security and data protection settings 
  • Write technical documentation 

 

Requirements 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics or relevant field
  • Proven experience as a full stack developer or similar role in a geospatial application area
  • Experience as a software systems architect 
  • Familiarity with developing for cloud computing 
  • Experience developing web, desktop and mobile applications 
  • Familiarity with common stacks 
  • Experience with Linux
  • Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery) 
  • Knowledge of multiple back-end languages (e.g. C#, Java, Python, PHP) and JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Node.js) 
  • Familiarity with databases (e.g. MySQL, MongoDB), web servers (e.g. Apache) and UI/UX design 
  • Be up to speed with the latest geospatial technologies 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills 
  • Great attention to detail 
  • Organisational skills
  • An analytical mind 
  • Understanding of datums, projections and what to check when things go wrong 
  • Interested and able to attend and present at relevant national and international events, including meetups and conferences 
  • You should have an innovative and problem-solving mindset, willingness to learn new skills and create unique solutions as part of the team and as an individual 
  • Passion for environmental and humanitarian causes, with a belief that space technologies can help solve problems on Earth
